Over the last eighteen months, the Ministry of Electricity (MoE) has trained personnel in the use and application of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS). The MoE is actively initiating the application of CMMS software in activities such as warehouse inventory management, work order preparation, performance monitoring and unit maintenance planning. CMMS software allows for automatic scheduling and tracking of preventive maintenance which reduces down time and power outages.

The training process began with personnel from five production facilities (power plants) and three new construction sites and is being expanded to encompass fifteen power plants and other facilities. CMMS now appears to be achieving widespread acceptance among MoE employees. MoE selected the CMMS software and worked with USAID/Tatweer On Jan 11-13th, eighteen MoE employees from across Iraq participated in CMMS training in Erbil, including key personnel from power plants that had not previously received CMMS training. To expand the scope of coverage across Iraq, USAID/TatweerTatweer The introduction of CMMS is a significant step forward in modernizing the MoE IT environment towards an integrated IT support system.
