USAID/Tatweer conducted an Organizational Self-Assessment and Transformation Program (OSTP) workshop for 16 South Oil Company (SOC) employees in Basra from Jan. 13 to 21st, 2010.

Mr. Tariq Kubeeh Hassan, 48, Manager of the Trade Department of SOC, who previously attended USAID/Tatweer courses in Nov. 2009, said that he learned to build and design clear structures for sustainability and development of SOC through implementing plans and organizational structures inspired by OSTP.

Mrs. Muna Abdul Kareem Salim, 54, Chief Senior Programs Analyst, said of the workshop, “I may deliver information from the OSTP course to my colleagues in order to change inefficiencies and to make other job changes.”

The two workshop instructors, Dr. Kevin Wheeler and Mr. Omar al Kindi, urged the participants to elect a change leader to manage the team’s future activities.

The leader, Mr. Falah Talib Dakhil, 34, senior engineer, described the workshop as unique, and said he will submit change issues which may be executed within the current phase to his department’s manager and cooperate to make changes that improve the department’s performance. Also, he will deliver the information that he has gained through the USAID/Tatweer OSTP course to other departments through holding extension courses and meetings.

On the final day of the workshop, a group of 25 SOC Hay’a directors and department managers headed by the Assistant DG of SOC, Mahmood Abdul Amir Hashem, attended an informational session about OSTP and its future activities in SOC.

During the OSTP presentation, there was an exchange of view points and an extended discussion between lecturers and participants. At the conclusion of the presentation and discussion, Assistant DG Mahmood announced to all in attendance that the DG of South Oil fully supports OSTP’s activities in SOC and that the organization will cooperate to ensure the program’s success. A distribution of USAID/Tatweer participant certificates followed the final presentation.
